☀️ Good News (Neurodivergent Edition) — April 2026

Less doomscrolling. More good brain stuff. Here’s what made us smile this month.

🧠 ADHD + autism: the plot thickens...

New research found that some brain-connectivity patterns were linked more closely to a child’s autistic traits than their actual ADHD/autism diagnosis.

Basically, those neat diagnostic boxes? Brains may not care about them quite as much as we do.

AuDHD crowd: Yeah... we could’ve told you that.

💛 Rebecca Gibney gets answers at 61

Actress Rebecca Gibney revealed she was diagnosed with ADHD and autism at 61, after decades of masking, panic attacks, overworking and a brain that seemingly never switched off.

Another woman finally getting the answer to:

“Why have I always felt like this?”

Late diagnosis matters. At 21, 41 or 61.

🛝 What if autistic kids aren't playing “wrong”?

Autistic researcher Yasmeen Multani is challenging deficit-based ideas about autistic play.

Something adults see as repetitive may actually involve curiosity, communication, sensory exploration and problem-solving.

Maybe autistic kids don't need teaching how to play “properly”.

Maybe adults need teaching how to see it differently.

👏👏👏

🏅 ADHD enters the sporting chat

More elite athletes are speaking openly about ADHD, including Adam Peaty, Michael Phelps, Noah Lyles and Ellie Kildunne — while researchers are looking at how sport can better support neurodivergent brains.

Not “ADHD is a superpower!”

Not “ADHD is a deficit!”

Just: give different brains the right environment to thrive.

We like that.

🏥 More assessments. Shorter waits. YES PLEASE.

An NHS trust in London announced plans for a new neurodevelopmental assessment service designed to increase assessment capacity by 50%.

Because awareness is great.

But people actually being able to access assessment and support?

Even better. 🙌

🌶️ APRIL'S VERDICT

Late diagnoses. Better research. Autistic voices leading autistic research. More neurodivergent representation.

Tiny steps. Right direction.

See you in May for another dose of good brain news.

Because normal is overrated.
